A note from our founder
I want to tell you why we built this, as plainly as I can.
There's a specific kind of loneliness that shows up when you're in the middle of something hard. Not the loneliness of having no one around. The loneliness of having plenty of people around and still not being able to say the real thing out loud. You can post about it. You can talk around it. But being genuinely witnessed, someone actually seeing what you're carrying, is a different and much rarer thing. We think the gap between those two, posting about it and being witnessed, is where a lot of people quietly give up on asking for help at all.
We built Steadyfy to close that gap. Not to build an audience for your struggle. To make it possible for one honest post to reach one honest response, from someone who actually knows what it's like, without either of you having to perform for anyone else watching.
What kind of company we want to be
We're trying to build this slowly, and on purpose. We are not optimizing for time spent in the app. We are not chasing daily-active-user charts at the expense of whether the app is actually good for the people using it. If growing slowly is the cost of keeping this honest, we'll pay it.
That means some decisions we make will look strange by normal startup standards. We'll leave features out that would obviously drive engagement, because they'd also turn this into the kind of app it exists to be an alternative to. We'd rather stay small and mean it than get big and lose the thing that made it worth building.
If you're reading this in the middle of something hard
You don't need to have it figured out to post here. You don't need the right words. You don't need to be far enough along in your recovery, your grief, your habit, your whatever it is, to have earned the right to talk about it. The bar is just: this is real, and I don't want to carry it completely alone today.
Someone reading it will know exactly what you mean. That's the whole design.
What we will and won't do as we grow
- We won't sell your attention to advertisers. This isn't going to become a feed you get stuck in.
- We won't add follower counts, like counts, or public metrics on you or your posts. That's not a phase we're passing through, it's a line we're not crossing.
- We will keep this anonymous. No real names, no photos, not later, not for some new feature, not ever.
- We will keep listening. If something we build isn't working the way we hoped, we'll say so and change it.
We're still figuring a lot of this out. But that part, what we won't do, is the part we're sure of.
